NOT “ALLOWED TO DREAM” is a 34-minute portrait documentary filmed in Scotland in May 2023. It chronicles the journey of two young musicians as they navigate the quest for their life's purpose. Amidst the challenges posed by our demanding society, the film explores the aspirations of young individuals striving to pursue their passions and tries to make out of it, a living.

The project was written by Eliott Coulaud and co-directed with Paul Foulon.

The screenplay for this film was developed as the final project for Eliott's cinema course, which ultimately earned him an honors bachelor's degree. Just three weeks after completing his previous short film: “AVANT MON DÉPART” he embarked on the creation of his second documentary.
It's worth noting that a year earlier, he directed his first documentary, "THE THINGS AIN’T SEEN” in the same location.

In the contemporary world, the youth encounter intricate challenges, including economic uncertainties, escalating performance-related stress, social pressures stemming from social media, and environmental crises. These complexities exert profound effects on our mental health, self-identity, life decisions, and prospects. This documentary offers a platform to engage with these issues empathetically and gain insights from a cohort of young individuals regarding potential solutions and initiatives to aid our generation's pursuit of a brighter future. In addition, it seeks to provide a glimpse into their day-to-day experiences as they confront the trials of social pressures, self-discovery, and self-esteem.

And to answer the question: are we free today to dream about our future?

This documentary seeks to serve as a tribute to the youth of today, extending an invitation to empathize and comprehend the challenges we face.
